MaryAnn Hawks joins the Healey Lab as a Biological Science Lab Technician! She is a UNC Neuroscience and Psychology graduate and former ORISE research participant at the Environmental Protection Agency. We are so excited to welcome MaryAnn to our team!
Jasmine Hasan received a Career Center Award from Duke University to conduct research this summer on adolescent intermittent ethanol exposure. We look forward to having her back in the lab. Congratulations Jasmine!
April 2026
Haley Geers successfuly defended her Graduation with Distinction Honors Thesis and presented her research at the Triangle SfN Neuroscience Meetng 2026! She investigated the effect of adolescent intermittent ethanol on astrocyte morphology and connectivity with excitatory and inhibitory synapses in the dorsal hippocampus. She is graduating with a degree in Neuroscience from the Trinity College of Arts and Sciences at Duke University. Congratulations Haley!

Dr. Healey welcomed her daughter, Scarlett, to the world! She will return from parental leave in April 2026.

Dr. Healey was an invited speaker at the UNC Bowles Center for Alcohol Studies where she discussed her recent work "The Long Hangover: Adolescent Intermittent Ethanol’s Persistent Dysregulation of Hippocampal Structure and Function"

Mariah Shobande (masters student, NCCU) presented her research "Adolescent Intermittent Ethanol Effects on Dorsal Hippocampal Neurogenesis and Cholinergic System: Prevention by Dietary Choline Supplementation" and Millie Evonlah (graduating senior, Duke University) presented her research "Paternal Cannabis Extract Exposure Effects on Adolescent Offspring Nucleus Accumbens and Hippocampal Glutamatergic and Cholinergic Systems" at Triangle SfN Neuroscience Meeting 2025, Chapel Hill NC.

Two undergraduates joined the Healey Lab for the Spring 2025 semester! Haley Geers (junior) and Stone Yan (freshman) were onboarded earlier this month, and they are very excited to begin their journeys in alcohol addiction research. We are so excited to see our team grow!
